Advanced Professional Studies

Syllabus

The MEd programme is comprised of six courses contributing to a total of 180 credit points at SCQF Level 11 (PG5).

• Course 1: Personal Effectiveness and Professionalism (15 credits SCQF Level 11).
• Course 2: Education for the Global Society (15 credits at SCQF Level 11).
• Course 3: Enhanced Practice in Learning and Teaching (30 credits at SCQF Level 11).
• Course 4: Professional Enquiry (30 credits at SCQF Level 11).
• Course 5: Exploring Professionalism and Educational Leadership (30 credits at SCQF Level 11).
• Course 6: Dissertation or Work-based Project (60 credits at SCQF Level 11).

Assessment

Formative assessment is a feature of all courses. Formative and summative assessments are designed to arise naturally from the work. Assignments focus directly on workplace applications.

Objectives

Enhance and extend the skills, knowledge and understanding of the participants in the following ways:

1. Developing advanced knowledge and understanding of educational issues and theories.
2. Developing the capacity to analyse critically evidence and arguments to support professional judgements in complex and ambiguous situations.
3. Making an informed contribution to current educational debates and discussions.
4. Applying advanced knowledge and understanding of a range of theoretical perspectives and approaches to enhance personal professional practice.
5. Developing the capacity to shape and lead change in a variety policy and practice settings.
6. Exploiting opportunities to use research to generate professional knowledge and enhance policy and practice.
