The understanding of how such technologies work, and the opportunities they enable, cannot be easily obtained through conventional means. This gap in information could lead to a hindering of interest due to the scarcity of appropriately trained individuals to implement and promote such technologies. This module addresses such an issue by delivering a holistic picture of the advanced technologies, covering relevant technical, economic and socio-political aspects that will be illustrated through a combination of technical demonstration and real world case studies. The module provides attendees with the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate options and specify appropriate solutions within a range of different contexts and business models.

On successful completion of this module the student will be able to:
- Describe their understanding of the theoretical aspects and practical challenges of utilising advanced technologies for water supply and sanitation
- Describe the relative options and understand their comparative strengths and weaknesses across a range of applications scenarios
- Understand the relative significance of technical, economic and socio-political factors in developing and implementing advanced technologies
- Select and size appropriate technology options for a range of different contexts
- Understand the different business models that need to be considered when using advanced technologies.
