Introduction:
This is an introductory Higher Education course. It is designed to address the needs of people wishing to gain employment in the IT industry, or those already employed in the IT industry who would like to improve their skills. It reflects the needs of employers, as the material covered is based on learning materials supplied by professional networking qualifications.

The Internet runs on technologies which ensure that the millions of e-mails and web pages which are sent every day get to their correct destination as quickly as possible. This course aims to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to install, troubleshoot and design networks based on these new technologies. It covers a range of equipment, from the networks found in small offices through to the hardware which holds the Internet together.

Study Mode & Location:
This part-time course consists of four modules. They are delivered in sequence (starting in September) at the rate of one module per semester (ie every 15 weeks). If there is sufficient demand, we may also operate a January intake. The course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

It will also provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the implementation and desktop support needs of customers who are planning to deploy Microsoft Windows XP Professional in a variety of stand-alone and network operating system environments.
  • Network Management (CO2558). This module consists of two parts. The first part is designed to cover the underpinning knowledge and skills to configure a Windows-based computer to operate in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network infrastructure. The second part is intended to develop the requisite knowledge and skills needed to effectively implement, manage and maintain server networking technologies.
  • Server Management (CO2559). This module also consists of two parts. The first part is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to manage accounts and resources in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environment. The second part concentrates on the knowledge and skills needed to effectively maintain server resources, monitor server performance, and safeguard data on a computer running one of the operating systems in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family.
