About this course

Completion of City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Creative Techniques in Creative Computing - Website Design (QCF); or the ability to build and publish a basic website using HTML, basic JavaScript and to have a good understanding of PhotoShop or other digital image manipulation software (such as Paint Shop Pro).

Advanced Web Design

Course Aims:
The aims of this course are to enable candidates to:
Explain and use webpage layout techniques
Identify what a client wants from their website
Build and test interactive web pages
Use graphics software to create and manipulate images and basic animations
Maintain and evaluate websites

Course Content:
Throughout this course students will study effective web site design and production techniques, inclusive of:
Use and describe HTML / XHTML and CSS
Describe the purposes of XML
Create interactive webpages with basic JavaScript
Incorporate third-party Java applets into a webpage
Create interactive webpages that interface to a server-side database
Identify the differences between ASP, PHP and CGI server-side scripting
Create a formal design for a website to meet client specifications
Check that websites work consistently on different browsers
Research contextual influences relating to websites
Use advanced and innovative design ideas to inform the making of a website
Plan and manage the making of the website to the working design
Work safely and effectively
Make a well constructed website to a professional standard
Use presentation skills to display the website
