The module is tailored to respond to the challenges and issues faced by health and social care professionals, managers and leaders in contemporary health and social care services worldwide. The module has a healthcare management orientation, drawing on management theory and cutting-edge research. It provides an introduction to important topics such as organisational behaviour, organisational decision making, entrepreneurship, innovation, health economics and health information systems. It will support you in applying this knowledge within your work environment. The skills you develop by applying this knowledge will allow you to influence the service development and enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of service provision in your area. This module is suitable for: Health and social care professionals seeking career progression or moving into leadership or management roles Other professionals planning to switch to career into health and social care leadership and management Professionals from any backgrounds wishing to study post graduate studies in Healthcare Management/Leadership such as MBA Healthcare Management, as this module provides an introduction to essential healthcare management topics. Where and how you’ll study You’ll be taught through a combination of lectures, discussion groups, case study analysis and films. As individuals have different learning styles, we believe that a variety of teaching methods allows us to satisfy individual learning needs. These teaching methods also encourage you to work with individuals from variety of backgrounds and different cultures and allow you to develop the soft skills such as communication, coordination, teamwork and conflict resolution; all of which are increasingly important in modern health and social care organisations. The module will be taught at Cambridge and Chelmsford in Trimester 1 (September-December) and Trimester 3 (June) by Dr Senaka Fernando. The Health Economics session will be delivered by Dr Ali Parsa. The module at each campus has 6x 6hrs sessions (6hrs per day) and 3x1hr (1hr per day) individual tutorials. These individual tutorials focus on students' assignments. The module is assessed by one essay of no more than 6000 words.
