Course programme
What Will I Learn
Following a foundation in biological principles and laboratory skills, studies focus on the diverse applications of plant and animal sciences in the land-based sector including options in molecular biology, immunotechnology, animal feed technology, crop protection, environmental science, food science and business management.
How Will I Learn
Theoretical aspects of the course are complemented by laboratory and practical classes and by visits to farms, commercial laboratories and scientific research institutes. A third year study tour is included to show the wider applications of animal and plant sciences.
Honours Projects
In the fourth year you will undertake your own research project in a subject which interests you, drawing together all that you have learnt on your course. Topics covered are varied: recent Honours Projects have included investigations into potential biocontrol agents against potato blight, the effects of breeding on the incidence of ovine footrot, and the use of plant secondary metabolites to control clostridium infections in poultry.
