Modular 10 Day Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Technology
(Incorporating F-Gas (CITB J11) and Pipework & Brazing (CITB J05)
Crownship’s industry experienced tutors provide an environment conducive to learning, supporting candidates throughout all the stages of the course.
Comprehensive air-conditioning and refrigeration workbooks and study notes enhance the learning process.
Benefits of the qualification:
On completing the programme you will have a comprehensive knowledge of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems plus CITB (J11) F-Gas Regulations and CITB (J05) Pipework and Brazing nationally recognised industry qualifications, thus opening up opportunities for employment in the air-conditioning and refrigeration industry.
The course also provides a sound base for additional air-conditioning and refrigeration qualifications:
- City & Guilds 6127 Technical Certificate (Home Study)
- NVQ Level 2 in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration
- NVQ Level 3 in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration
This course is made up of 5 modules:
Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Technology
- Refrigeration principles. Latent and sensible heat.
- Basic vapour compression refrigeration cycle.
- Refrigerants, their properties, safe use and storage.
- Locate and identify system components, explain their functions.
- Identify abnormalities and prescribe corrective actions.
- Periodic maintenance and the use of cleanliness as an aid to leak detection.
- The importance of system monitoring.
- Recording of instrument readings and work carried out.
- Connect manifold gauges to system to aid diagnosis.
- Recover refrigerant/pump system down to carry out repairs.
- Replace faulty components as required.
- Electrical isolation, testing controls, control replacement.
- Manufacture of replacement of copper tubing as required.
Practical fault finding exercises on working refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, such as:
- Blocked filter/dryers
- Blocked expansion valves
- Dirty condensers
- Faulty LP and HP Switches
- Adjusting LP and HP Switches
- Pumping system down to rectify faults
- Evacuating system using the Triple Evacuation Method
F-Gas Regulations and Qualifications (CITB J11)
- Safe Handling of Refrigerant Techniques
Pipework and Jointing Skills - Recovery of Refrigerants (restricted to small systems only)
Intrusive and Non-Intrusive Leak and Performance Checking of Systems - Leakage checks, recovery, install, service, and maintain - all Systems.
Pipework and Brazing (CITB J05)
- This Scheme allows delegates to carry out Pipework and Brazing on a range of Industrial Refrigeration pipe sizes. The delegate will have to produce a Practical Test Piece (1" 1/8 to 1" 5/8) ,which will be Pressure Tested in accordance with the relevant European Standard and then subjected to a destructive test to ensure a leak free joint.
Split Systems
- Theory: Covering site survey, regulations, basic heat load calculations, A/C equipment siting, installing pipe and cable runs, air movement and noise transmission.
- Practical: Covering wall mountings, installations pipework, making connections, insulations: leak testing, vacuums and charging, commissioning of systems and hand over.
Essential Electrics
- Safe Isolations
- Types of Instrumentation
- Electrical Regulations
- Supply Systems
- Earthing Arrangements
- Control and Protection Equipment
- Terminations and Installation Practices
- Electrical Safety checks
