This programme is suitable for apprentices who are approaching the end of their training for the JIB Apprentice Training scheme and the electrical installation engineering Modern Apprenticeship and others.
AM2 stands for Achievement Measurement 2.
The test is a three-day industry recognised trade test that is controlled by the National Electrotechnical Training (NET) Organisation in conjunction with the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and Summit Skills who are currently the Sector Skills Council for the Electrotechnical Industry.
The test can only be taken at an Approved AM2 Test Centre, licensed annually by NET, and should be booked directly with the Approved AM2 Test Centre.

Candidates should possess the basic underpinning knowledge and practical skills in all of the assessment areas specified.

Course programme
AM2 Test Structure
The AM2 skills test takes place over three days and comprises of four sections:
» Section A:
- A1 Composite installation - 10 hours
- A2 Visual inspection - 30 mins
- A3 Functional operation - 30 mins
» Section B:
- B1 Inspection and testing of the composite installation - 1 hour 30 mins
» Section C:
- C1 Safe isolation of test unit (including risk assessment) - 15 mins
- C2 Safe isolation of supplies - 30 mins
» Section D:
- D1 Fault diagnosis - 1 hour 45 mins
- D2 Fault rectification - 1 hour 30 mins
The four sections must be completed within the specified target times. The work must comply with the requirements of the current lEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and Health and Safety Regulations. Candidates will be permitted to refer to the current edition of the lEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), lEE Guidance Note No.3 Inspection and Testing and the lEE On Site Guide (OSG) during the tests.

• Insulated combination pliers• Selection of large, medium and small screwdrivers (cross head and philips)
• Insulated side cutting pliers
• Metric Rule
• Knife - Clasp type preferred (Not Open Craft/Stanley Type)
• Hack-saw
• Junior Hack-saw
• PVC stripping tool
• Spirit level
• Plumb bob and line
• Stilsons/pipe wrench
• Spanners/Adjustable
• Scriber or marking pen
• Conduit bush spanners (20mm)
Please Note: This is a list of basic tools only. Candidates may wish to provide their own "specialist" tools such as Conduit Stocks and Dies (20mm), Mineral Insulated Cable Terminating tools, spanners, etc. In all cases tools must be in a safe condition, housed in a single small toolbox and must be inspected and approved for use by the Test Examiner before the test begins.
Candidates must present themselves at the test centre dressed in suitable working clothing and wear sound footwear.
