What you will learn On successful completion of the module the student will be able to:Understand the principles for the build up of conventional guns and mortars and alternative novel gun propulsion systems.Understand the principles of external ballistics of spin and fin stabilized ammunition both in air and underwater.Understand the design principles of fixed and separated ammunition, cartridge cases and combustible cases, igniters and methods of extending the range of gun launched projectiles.Understand the principals of safety and arming and weapons fuzing.Identify the methods of carriage and release of air delivered ordnance and to appreciate the principles of operation of smart carrier shell.Examine torpedo design including propulsion and guidance and control subsystems.Describe the characteristics of free flight rockets such as air delivered and artillery rocket systems and the principles of recoilless guns and ammunition.
