Course programme
The programme has been designed to meet the personal, professional and educational requirements of anaesthetists wishing to advance their knowledge and skills in perioperative care and quality improvement. It will enable you to develop your knowledge and extend and advance your clinical practice in order to achieve breadth and depth to your clinical competence with a strong emphasis on quality improvement and evidence-based practice. We want you to be able to consider the evidence for best practice that is presented to you, critically appraise the literature, and determine how you can develop services in your hospital to achieve and maintain high quality care for your patients. In doing so you will be enabled to think and work creatively and intellectually which in turn will stimulate you to continue to search for new knowledge for the benefit of patients and health care provision. As an anaesthetist you need to be a lifelong learner and this programme will enable you to continue with this by developing your critical, analytical and evaluative skills at Masters Level (Postgraduate Studies Level 7). Further it will enable you to undertake your own high quality research. This programme will be appropriate for doctors within each of the postgraduate levels from the end of the Foundation Level through the levels before becoming a Consultant. The programme will provide extensive robust evidence that will be appropriate for transfer into the Royal College of Anaesthetist (RCOA) e-portfolio for those students who are taking part in the RCOA training programme. All applicants will need to have the minimum qualifications as a Registered Medical Practitioner and with two years post medical qualification clinical experience. Home students will be expected to be currently registered with the General Medical Council.
