Course review:
Egyptian Language is hard; there is no doubt about it. This beginner’s course provides an easy route in to understanding Egyptian hieroglyphics. The content of this course concerns Middle Egyptians. I will provide hints and tips along the way for the best ways to learn this sometimes complex language, drawing on my own personal experiences of learning Middle Egyptian. This course runs for ten weeks and I take a maximum of fifteen students for each course at each date, due to the intense nature of the course. I am able to give one on one tuition whenever you may struggle, and as always my e-mail is always available to my students. A test will be given in week four and week nine, each are worth 50% of the overall course, marks will be given at the end of the course and upon successful completion*, you will receive your certificate.
As well as the weekly curriculum and assignments, I provide a vast bank of resources to aid you in your learning.
*Successful completion is a grade C or above, which I am confident my students will accomplish.
Course content:
Week One- The history behind the translation and understanding of Hieroglyphics
Hieroglyphic direction for reading and placement
Week Two- The Sounds of Middle Egyptian including uniliteral, biliteral, and multiliteral signs.
Week Three- Nouns
Week Four-Pronouns
This week you will be sent a test, I assume you will not cheat, as you will only be cheating yourself, you will be given one day to complete.
Week Five- Adjectives
Week Six- Adjectival and Nominal sentences
Week Seven- Prepositions and Adverbs
Week Eight- Numbers
Week Nine- Your second (larger) test will be given now, you will have until the following week to complete, I trust my students not to cheat.
Week Ten- A re-cap of everything covered
This is the opportune time to move on to intermediate Egyptian language.
