Introduction to course
The Art, Design and Photography Department is situated in the new Drapers' Building and boasts new purpose-built facilities with specialist studios for Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Textiles, Sculpture, Print Making, Photography and Fine Art. The department has a dynamic atmosphere where creative work is supported by facilities from the traditional to the high-tech and has staff with a variety of specialist backgrounds. The department encourages independence, ambition and theoretical and practical rigour through the study of Art, Design and Photography. You will be expected to buy an art kit which will contain the essential equipment you will need for your art courses.

Course Details
This course will help you develop your Fine Art skills of Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography and New Media and Sculpture. You will be required to develop your theoretical and historical understanding of Fine Art practice and demonstrate through your written work and practical work how artists' concepts and techniques have influenced and/or informed your own ideas. You also be required to learn and apply the formal elements and principles of Fine Art within your own work.

Where the course lead
The course gives you a stimulating experience that will provide you with a quality portfolio of artwork. You can progress onto a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, to University, or into employment that offers training in varied aspects of creative industries. N.B Most Art Schools and Universities offering BA (Hons) courses for Art and Design subjects will expect students to have studied on a one year Foundation Diploma before applying (these are generally offered free of charge for students under 19years).

This course combines well with
Photography, English, Psychology, Media Studies, Philosophy, Sociology.

Course Assessment
The A' Level programme is assessed internally mid-way and on completion of units of work. The overall AS and A2 year is internally marked and moderated and externally verified bythe exam board WJEC.
