Introduction to course
Geography deals with current issues and ideas at the forefront of the political and social agenda such as: What are the real threats of climate change? How should aid be managed and what should be done to help developing nations? What are the real issues involved in international migration? Is sustainable development a luxury or a necessity? Geography boasts a 100% pass rate at A Level with 43% A to B grades. The department has excellent facilities and students are able to participate in fieldwork, lectures and visits to university departments to expand their knowledge. The department has strong links with many London Universities and offers Masterclasses at Queen Many University London.

Course Details
Throughout the course you will study the management of physical and human environments. During the first year, you will concentrate on natural hazards and climate change, population, migration and globalisation. You will also study coasts along with rural and urban inequalities. There is a residential fieldwork trip. The second year concentrates on sustainable use and management of resources including energy, water and biodiversity. It also focuses on conflicts brought about as a result of demand for resources and the role of superpowers and technology in bridging the development gap. Students will also be required to carry out research on a topic of their choice with topics ranging from tectonic activity and hazards to the geography of health.

Where the course lead
The study of Geography provides students with a wide range of skills and knowledge giving access to university or employment. Statistically Geography graduates experience an extremely high level of employment in a wide range of careers. Geography graduates have gone on to have jobs such as; Advertising Executives, Accountants; Teachers; TV Researchers and Presenters; Meteorologists (TV Weather Presenters); Travel Consultants etc.

Additional Information
Queen Mary Master Classes are available in Geography at Villiers Park where a scholarship residential workshops are available. There is also a residential field trip for all students in year one.
