Animal Care - Intermediate - BTEC First Diploma
This is a nationally recognised qualification for those wishing to enter careers in the animal industry or to achieve a higher qualification in this area. We have a fantastic animal suite that consists of small pets and reptiles.

What will I study?
On the course you will study three core units:
· Work-related experience in animal care.
· Animal care industry and organisation.
· Animal accommodation, handling and care.
Then three additional specialist units from:
· Animal care.
· Introduction to biology.
· Habitat establishment and maintenance.
· Animal health.
· Retail and customer service.
· Breeds and grooming.
· Animal nursing.
One unit will be completed during work experience, one day a week in the animal sector.

How is the course assessed?
You will be assessed on your coursework and report writing.

What enrichment will there be?
Activities can include:
· Visits to zoos, aquariums and farms.
· HE taster days.
· Fundraising activities.
· Trips to farms.

What could I do next?
This First Diploma is a specialist work-related qualification which can lead on to a Level 3 qualification in Animal Management which will then lead to higher education opportunities/ further study.
Career opportunities could include practical animal care, pet shops, zoos and ancillary supply industries.
