Animal Care Level 1 - Landbased Studies

If you can answer yes to all the above then this is the course for you.

What do I need to join the course?
No formal qualifications but a desire to care and work with animals.

What will I be doing?
7 units over 1 year

Mandatory Units · Unit 001 Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries · Unit 002 Develop performance in land-based industries · Unit 027 Introduction to animal species · Unit 017 Assist with maintaining health and wellbeing of animals · Unit 018 Assist with the care of animals · Unit 019 Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals · Unit 028 Assist with the feeding and watering of animals

There is also a selection of optional units where the candidate would be expected to achieve 5 units.

During your practical training you will have the opportunity to spend time at different animal placements.

How will my progress on the course be assessed?
Each unit has an assignment attached to it. You will have to successfully complete a portfolio of evidence relating to your work placement experience. You will also be closely assessed in your placements and have to satisfactorily complete a Placement Evidence Checklist.

What will I achieve?
The Certificate Level 1 in Small Animal Care will give you a nationally recognised qualification in Animal Care. This will enable you to apply for a range of employment opportunities such as:
· Cattery · Pet Store Assistant · Wildlife Park Keeper · Other related small animal care industries

Key Skills
Through your studies you will be given the opportunity to improve and receive certification of your Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. In many cases you will also be able to achieve further qualifications in Problem Solving, Improve Own Learning and Performance as well as Working with Others. All key skills are nationally recognised qualifications to improve not only your employability skills but also assist your university application by attracting additional UCAS points. And the future?

The Certificate Level 1 will give you the opportunity to work in a supervised capacity with a wide range of small animals in various industries. It also gives you the opportunity to apply for further training in:
· National Certificate in Animal Care Level 2 · Veterinary Nursing · Further training
