This two-year modular course offers FdSc/HND Animal Welfare and Management and HND Animal Care (or equivalent) students the opportunity to upgrade their qualification to an honours degree. It is linked closely to the established BSc (Hons) Animal Health and Welfare. Mature students who have been working in the industry since completing the HND course, and are now looking to upgrade their qualification, are particularly welcome. The key areas to be studied will include Animal Behaviour and Welfare, Integrated Health Management, Honours Research Project, and Veterinary Epidemiology. In order to widen and increase career options there will also be optional specialist modules. There are numerous career options open to graduates of this course. There are employment opportunities in animal health with companies associated with the development, manufacture and marketing of animal health products. Nutritional products and special diet formulations are being developed, aimed at animals with health problems, and a knowledge of both animal health and nutrition equips the Animal Management, Health and Welfare graduate for careers in this area. The concerns over animal welfare and food safety have led to new Quality Assurance employment opportunities, with schemes being developed by the RSPCA, farming industry and supermarkets to ensure animal health, welfare and food safety from conception to consumption. The pet care industry is undergoing major reorganisation in the sale and care of companion animals, with opportunities for people with the right skills. There will always be careers available in animal welfare and in the management of animals. The Animal Management, Health and Welfare degree provides essential skills in these and other related areas.
