Course programme

A Model for Working with Drugs and Alcohol use and other Addictions.

In this two day workshop we will examine how we can work with addictive clients who present with open escape hatches. We will use the Appetite Path Model to identify how clients maintain harmful script behaviours as a means of attempting to meet psychological hungers, and explore how we can work with clients to develop healthy and self soothing ways of meeting those hungers and no longer access escape hatch paths.

We will look at how we can use the model as an assessment and treatment planning tool – and at how we can work within the relationship to address the unmet developmental needs that underlie the addictive behaviour.

The work will be underpinned by Berne’s theory of Psychological Hungers, Escape Hatch theory and Kohut’s self psychology approach.

Time: 10.00 am till 5.00 pm
