The qualification recognises the changing requirements on Library staff to use technology effectively within day to day business operations but also to be able to support customers using the facilities offered by a modern library service. The qualification comprises of units (specific to libraries) which are accredited by SQA (SCQF level 7). The qualification offers a number of advantages to learners and employers: It can be used as evidence towards CILIP Chartership. Being accredited by SQA, this carries credits towards other qualifications possibly degrees. It offers a training framework for library staff which can help support improvement in services and customer support. Learning and assessments are relevant to the workplace and therefore the investment in staff time and skills development will benefit staff and services.

Course Content
The course comprises the following units: Locating Information on Behalf of Clients; Supporting Client Learning; Supporting clients in the legal and use of ICT; Supporting Reader Development; Using ICT in Library practice and professional development.

Progression
Learners can progress on to the Advanced Diploma (SCQF level 8). The qualification will also carry credits towards other qualifications and can contribute towards the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals Framework of Qualifications for Certification, Chartership or Revalidation of Chartership.
