Applied ICT
The new WJEC GCE in Applied ICT provides students with a wholly new perspective on the world of Information and Communication Technology. You will improve upon your ICT skills learnt at GCSE by using application packages such as Word, Excel, Access, and Dreamweaver. Students will be assessed on a paperless basis with a combination of electronic case studies, On-screen examinations and tasks based on real/realistic organisations.Students will need to operate within an environment of ideas and demonstrate an understanding of ICT spanning state of the art applications to the complexities of implementing real web sites that are linked to databases.
Year One : Two units Unit 1 40%, Unit 2 60%
Unit 1: ebusiness.
An online examination. Not as scary as it sounds. Part 'A', 40% of the examination, is standard Business/ ICT questions and answers, which you will need to revise for. Part 'B' , 60 %, consists of using your ICT skills over a two hour period to produce a solution to a board given task using wordprocessors, spreadsheets and databases.
Unit2 : Eskills. This consists of producing a solution to a board given task. The task will be broken down into the following sections: The specification, Design, Implementation, Testing, Documentation and a Review You will use Spreadsheets, Databases, Wordprocessors and Dreamweaver to complete this task. Once the work is completed it will be presented as an Eportfolio. Previous topics have included designing administrative systems for a Bakery and a Health and fitness Centre.

A2 Units
Year two: Two units Unit 5 40%, and either Unit 6 60%
Unit 5: eproject (40%) a mandatory unit
This is an externally set controlled assignment. In this unit you will use Project Management skills for an ICT based task. It is an assignment area where you will need to use your team working skills to apply your knowledge of eskills to a board provided task. The controlled aspect of the unit means that on receiving information on the final task all of the work has to be completed within 15 hours of teacher supervised time.
Unit 6: estudio (60%)
You need to produce a range of graphic and multimedia products to a given specification. This could include animation, web design and video. The work will be split into Requirements Specification, Design of both a Graphic and a Multimedia product, Implementation of both Graphic and Multimedia product, A review and finally you pull all of your work together including documentation into an eportfolio.On successful completion of Applied ICT, you can move on to study for a degree or BTEC Higher National Diploma in related subjects such as ICT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Multimedia, Software Engineering, Computer Networking, e-Business and Information Management. Students can choose to use their qualifications to go straight into employment or Higher Education.
