Course programme

To start this course you will need to have four GCSEs at grade D, including Maths, English and Double Science. You will have the opportunity to repeat GCSE English and Maths alongside the course if you need to. Most importantly you should have a keen interest in science.

During this one year course you will learn through a range of interesting and inspiring case studies and classroom activities. Your tutors will help you to develop practical laboratory and field skills and you will carry out projects and write them up.

After the course you may wish to study an Applied Level 3 course or an apprenticeship. Cornwall College offer an exciting range of applied science courses, with lots of practical work and great links to science employers. For example you might choose to study Forensic Science, Zoology or Marine Biology.
Lots of employers struggle to find people with good scientific and technical skills. People who have these abilities often earn more than those employed in other areas.

The course is a very practical introduction to the work of scientists studying in a range of different fields. Your course will include chemical analysis, biology and the environment, crime scene investigation, health sciences and space science. You will also complete a practical scientific project.
