Course programme

There are 6 mandatory units and the other units are specialist units selected by tutors, so may vary. Mandatory units total 55 Credits so there are 115 Credits to be gained from the optional units. We choose these each year to make best use of the equipment and staff specialisms that we have. Mandatory units are: Fundamentals of Science Working in the Science Industry Scientific Investigations Practical Techniques Perceptions of Science and Mathematical Tools Details of the content can be found via Edexcels website. The skills you will develop will help you to progress to degree courses in Medical Science, Pharmacy, Diagnostic Radiotherapy, Biochemistry and many more. The course is delivered at Park Lane Campus. A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Medical Science) will gain you access to many University courses. In fact, 95% of Universities accept this qualification. If you know what you would like to study in future, check the course requirements by looking at University websites or www.ucas.com You can progress to degree courses in Medical Science, Pharmacy, Diagnostic Radiotherapy, Biochemistry and many more. Remember to check the GCSE requirements too, to make sure you meet these. You may also choose to apply for a Foundation Degree, either at University or one of those offered by our HE department at Leeds City College. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
