Course programme
You will study the history of science and the theory of science, with special reference to medicine and medical research. You will study modules including Medical Physics; Disease and Infection; Biomedical Science; Genetics; Physiology; Microbiology and more. You will also visit laboratories and places of scientific interest.
You will need four GCSEs at grade C or above (including Science, Maths and English Language). Alternatively you can have a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (at Merit or above), with English and Maths as part of a Functional Skills module.
Applicants will also need a good reference from a school or employer. You will complete an interview and assessment prior to enrolment.
Overseas applicants must have achieved Level 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill).
All students will complete an interview and assessment prior to enrolment.
Assessment is continuous and focuses on practical laboratory work and assignments. There is no final exam.
You can progress to a Higher National Diploma in Science or a related field. You can also begin to consider junior roles in such fields as Genetics, Nutrition, Applied Biology, Pharmacology, Biomedical/Biological Sciences, and Radiology.
