"Entry Requirements Applicants should hold the equivalent of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science or a related discipline, for example Sports Studies, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sports Therapy, Sports Coaching, Exercise Science and Physical Education.
Consideration will also be given to applicants from other cognate areas that overlap with sport and exercise sciences, for example physiotherapy and psychology, depending on the makeup of their undergraduate..."

The study of sport and exercise is a rapidly expanding field with both academic and professional relevance. The PgCert, PgDip and MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Science offers suitably qualified graduates and professionals the opportunity to develop their academic knowledge, skills and qualifications through evidence based critical debate and reflective professional practice relevant to the scientific study of sport and exercise.

You will have the opportunity to study all the theoretical and practical areas necessary for gaining accredited status with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).

You will engage in practical application of Sport and Exercise Science in individual and team sport settings and in performance and health related settings.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

For those students who wish to further develop their academic skills the Masters programme includes rigorous independent research in the area. It will also provide students with continued professional development and facilitate their personal career development. The proposed provision has been mapped against the requirements for individual accreditation by the British Association for Sport and exercise Sciences (BASES) including practical ability in laboratory techniques, reflective practice, theoretical basis of the physiology and psychology of sports and exercise, and completion of an in-depth research study in the area of sport and exercise science. It will, therefore, be excellent preparation for students who want to undertake these professional qualifications.

The course is focused on the key elements of sport and exercise science and comprises modules on the following topics:

  • Performance Physiology;
  • Environmental Exercise Physiology;
  • Exercise, Nutrition and Obesity;
  • Current Issues in Sport and Exercise Psychology;
  • Physical Activity, Exercise and Special Populations;
  • Sport, Exercise and Cognitive Performance.

To achieve the award of an MSc Applied Sport and Exercise Science you will also receive research methods training and then undertake a mandatory research project.
