To provide selected delegates with underpinning knowledge of lifting operations to ensure that a safe system of work is implemented, a person should be appointed to have overall control of the lifting operation and to act on behalf of the organisation requiring the load to be moved by cranes. Suitable for: Those who have, or are required to have 'hands on' knowledge and responsibilities involving the planning, supervision and execution of lifting operations as defined in the code of practice BS7121-Safe Use of Cranes along with employers complying with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
About this course
18 Years & Over
Operatives should be medically fit, have good eyesight and general ability to handle lifting equipment, experienced and have technical knowledge to carry out the role competently.

Aim
The aim of the course is to provide selected delegates with underpinning knowledge of lifting operations to ensure that a safe system of work is implemented, a person should be appointed to have overall control of the lifting operation and to act on behalf of the organisation requiring the load to be moved by cranes.

Course Content / Aims and Objectives –Theory and Practical Skill Instruction
- Trainees will have an understanding of course aims and objectives.
- Have a clear understanding of their responsibilities under Health and Safety Law and all other relevant legislation.
- Trainees will have an understanding of the respective site safety rules applicable to slinging operations.
- Understand modes of use applicable to lifting equipment, slings etc.
- Safe Working Loads of lifting equipment and cranes including angle of A.
- Planning
- Carry out full inspection of lifting equipment, cranes, workplace site etc.
- Selection of cranes.
- Selection of personnel.
- Safety of people during the lifting operation, including public if applicable.
- Instruction and supervision.
- Consultation with other responsible bodies if required.
- Duties of a banksman / siganaller.
- Hand signals / radio communication to crane driver.
- Responsibility for the organisation, control and safety of the lifting operations.
- Multi and Open choice theory tests.
- Practical tests.
Instructors
Courses are carried out by our fully trained and accredited instructors and the training will be of a high quality standard throughout.
Location of Training
Training can be delivered on-site and off-site depending on customer requirements; training delivered off-site will be more advantageous to the trainees as the training can be specific to their workplace activities.
Equipment
Must be in sound working order, efficient state and of good repair when being used for training off-site and to be made available when required for the practical aspects of the training, ideally in an area away from the normal day to day work activities.
Achievement Measurement
The training is carried out in accordance with relevant Nationally Accredited Standards and includes both theory and practical assessments leading to a nationally recognised qualification on successful completion.
