There are no formal entry qualifications. However a Grade C in GCSE English, Maths or a Technology subject would be an advantage as well as some experience of using ICT. Acceptance on to the programme will be determined on the basis of interview and initial assessment.

Who is this course for? For those who would like to work for an agricultural machinery dealership, and individuals who have a vocational interest in agricultural machinery maintenance and repair from allied companies and related businesses.

Previous knowledge required: There are no formal entry qualifications. However a Grade C in GCSE English, Maths or a Technology subject would be an advantage as well as some experience of using ICT. Acceptance on to the programme will be determined on the basis of interview and initial assessment.

What will I study? The programme will be delivered via a Technical Certificate (TC) and the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) through a series of common theory units and practical tasks. Evidence will be generated during college workshop sessions and in the workplace. Units include - Health and Safety, Maintaining the work Area, Moving Loads, Bench Fitting, Welding and Fabrication, Removing and Replacing Components, and Maintaining the Condition of Tractors and Machinery.

What else will I do? In addition to the L2 Technical certificate (C&G 3942) and the NVQ (C&G 4025), you will be helped to develop your Key Skills in Communication, Numeracy and IT. You will also undertake a basic tractor driving course and study first aid. You will have the opportunity to complete NPTC Certificates of Competence in some of the following - ATV bikes, Telescopic Handlers and Chainsaw.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed throughout the course using written assessments and assignments and individual practical assessments.

What will I achieve? Level 2 NVQ in Agricultural Service Engineering. Level 2 Technical Certificate in Agricultural Engineering. Key skills in Communications, Numeracy and ICT. NPTC Certificates (As above)

What can I do afterwards? You may want to progress to manufacturers training courses, NVQ Level 3 in Agricultural Engineering or continue with your occupation as an agricultural contractor or self employed agricultural engineer.

Materials required: You will need stationary and suitable working clothes to include overalls and steel toecap boots.

Additional information about this course: The course is delivered on 2 days per week over 2 years. This is an option to combine this programme with the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Agriculture giving 4 days per week attendance at college which would give the learner a good basic grounding in both Agriculture and Agricultural Mechanics over a 2 year period.
