As an apprentice you will spend the majority of your week working in a
salon and learning in the workplace. You will also come in to college for one day a week for practical training, theory, demonstrations and to work in the College†s commercial salon.
As part of the Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to learn the knowledge and skills contained within the NVQ Level 2 in Beauty and gain Functional Skills* qualifications.
The topics you will study include:
· Provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments
· Remove hair using waxing techniques
· Provide manicure treatments
· Provide pedicure treatments.
Extra opportunities
There will be a variety of additional opportunities for you to develop skills for current trends within the beauty industry for example ear piercing and tanning. You will also have the opportunity to enter the world skills competition and to showcase your skills at the end of year celebration show.
How will I be assessed?
A Personal Assessor will visit your salon to review your progress
throughout your course. You will also participate in the commercial salon at the College where assessments will take place. Your knowledge will be tested using online facilities.
How long will it take?
The time taken for you to achieve your Apprenticeship will depend on how well you get on at work, but most of all it will would depend on your own determination and motivation to complete your training. As a general rule, an Apprenticeship will take 12-18 months.

On successful completion you may:
Progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy,
a Level 3 NVQ in Beauty Therapy or the BTEC National Diploma in Beauty Therapy Sciences.
Or
Continue your exciting and rewarding career, for example as a Practising Beautician or Therapist in a beauty salon.
Achieving this Apprenticeship will give you the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.
* You may be exempt if you have recently achieved a good grade in English Language and Maths at GCSE.
