The hospitality and catering professional cookery apprenticeship is a broad and exciting programme offering apprentices the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience utilising the College's training kitchens and restaurant. Herefordshire and Ludlow College's hospitality and catering learners have a renowned reputation, winning prizes at local and national competitions such as the 'Brakes Student Chef Team Challenge’ which took place in London in February 2012. The team came third out of 71 entries and were highly commended on their communication, preparation and hygiene skills.
High levels of motivation and drive are required, along with attention to detail, charisma and good people and communication skills. Roles are varied and you could be involved with planning menus, dealing with suppliers, managing a budget, monitoring and maintaining the quality of food, front of house service, etc - no two days will ever be the same!

There are two levels of apprenticeship available, the Intermediate Level 2 and the Advanced Level 3. You would start with the Intermediate apprenticeship which takes 2 years to complete and can then progress to the level 3 if you wish.
Apprenticeships are designed with the help of the employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. There are targets and checks to make sure that your employer is supporting you and you are making progress.
