The Engineering Apprenticeship courses follow numerous discipline pathways, including, Mechanical, Toolroom, Design, Electrical/Electronic, Maintenance and Technical Laboratory. An apprenticeship is a work based learning programme at level three where the learner is 'earning while learning'. The programme is ideally suited to employees who have some element of responsibility within their job role. The apprentice will be employed and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage. The apprentice will attend college on a day release basis and should achieve the level 3 Apprenticeship Framework within the agreed timescale. Please note: Unemployed applicants for this provision must already have achieved the following qualifications (or equivalents from the National Framework): BTEC L3 Diploma Electrical/Electronic Engineering Year 1; L2 NVQ Diploma in PEO; L2 Essential Skills/Key Skills in Communications, Application of Number, Information & Communication Technology, Working With Others and Improving Own Learning & Performance. Opportunities may be limited and are by competitive interview with prospective employers subject to availability. Applicants who do not hold these awards should refer to our pre-modern apprenticeship full time training courses. Employed applicants should contact the Engineering Department for further details.

Course programme

  • All learners will be supported by a Training Adviser/Assessor who will monitor progress towards achieving targets on a regular basis
  • The Training Adviser/Assessor will liaise closely with the employer to ensure that qualifications are achieved within timescale
  • The Training Adviser/Assessor will assess the Apprentice in the workplace as and when required

Learners who have successfully completed this apprenticeship can progress onto a higher apprenticeship at level four if appropriate.
