As an Apprentice you will spend the majority of your week working in a
salon and learning in the workplace. You will come in to college for one day a week for practical training, theory, demonstrations and to work in the College†s commercial salon.

As part of the Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to learn the
knowledge and skills contained within the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing and gain Functional Skills* qualifications.

The topics you will study include:

· Cut hair using basic techniques
· Change hair colour using basic techniques
· Style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques.

Extra opportunities

There will be a variety of additional opportunities for you to develop skills for current trends within the industry for example ear piercing, tooth gems and nail art. You will also have the opportunity to showcase your skills in competitions and events.

How will I be assessed?
A Personal Assessor will visit your salon to review and assess your
progress throughout your course. You will also participate in the commercial salon at the College where assessments will take place. Your knowledge will be tested using online facilities.

How long will it take?

The time taken for you to achieve your Apprenticeship will depend on your commitment and motivation to complete your training. As a general rule, an Apprenticeship will take 12-18 months.

On successful completion you may:

Progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing or
another Level 3 qualification.

Or

Continue your exciting and rewarding career, for example as a Stylist or Colourist in a hairdressing salon.

Achieving this Apprenticeship will give you the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C

* You may be exempt if you have recently achieved a good grade in English Language and Maths at GCSE.

Entry Requirements
We recommend you have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades C-G, however all applications will be considered. You must also demonstrate an interest in hair and a willingness to learn. Having
a relevant job (for a minimum of 16 hours per week), or in some cases, a work placement, is an essential part of an Apprenticeship. You will need to put in time and effort to find an
employer to offer you an Apprenticeship. The Apprenticeship
team at the College will support you with your job search activities â€" please get in touch if you need some help.
Apprenticeships are open to people aged 16 and over.
