Thames Gateway College Information:
This course runs at Thames Gateway College at CEME.
Duration :Two year course - 1 day per week for employed students.
Who the Course is For:
As part of the Apprenticeship Framework, aimed at those entering the motor industry as trainee mechanics. Those following the programme will receive the theoretical knowledge and practical tuition to back up skills training in the workplace, to become qualified service and repair mechanics. Ensures that the course satisfies both students and employers needs and meets the national standards set by the Automotive Skills Council.
Assessment:
Assessment is by examination in all key areas of study, on an individual basis. Practical assessment is carried out in the workplace, in an ongoing programme throughout the course.
Course Leads To:
Career development in the vehicle service and repair trade. Progression to the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Programme.

Vehicle repair is split into four key areas: Engines; Transmission; Chassis and Frame; and Electrical. The Apprenticeship covers non-complex diagnostics and repairs in all areas. This is supported by additional units that make up the full qualification award: Health and Safety, Positive Working Relationships, Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology. These areas are then supplemented by a variety of optional units that can tailor the award to the evidence most likely to occur in the trainees working environment.
