As an apprentice you will spend the majority of your week working for an employer and learning in the workplace. You will also usually come in to college for one day a week to gain support from your tutors and learn about the technical aspects of your job role.
To achieve the Apprenticeship, you will usually need to complete a
number of qualifications including the NVQ Level 2 for IT Practitioners and Functional Skills*. To achieve the NVQ 2 for IT Practitioners you will complete subjects relevant to your workplace situation.
The topics you will study include:
· Software development
· Hardware installation
· Website software
· System testing.
You will develop these skills and other important IT skills whilst being
employed in an actual business.
How will I be assessed?
Assessments are carried out through practical skills tests, observations of you working, assignments and projects. Tutors will make regular visits to your workplace to conduct reviews of your progress and to ensure that you are on target to gain your
qualifications.
How long will it take?
The time taken for you to achieve your Apprenticeship will depend on how well you get on at work, but most of all, it will depend on your own
commitment and motivation to complete your training. As a general
rule, an Apprenticeship will take 12-18 months.
Apprenticeships are open to people aged 16 and over.

Achieving this Apprenticeship will give you the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.
