APPRENTICESHIP LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Who is this course for?

If you are at present working in an industrial, hospital or educational laboratory, and want accreditation for the work you do and gain an approved qualification this course is for you

How long is this course for?

1-4 years depending on how many levels you want to progress through.

What will I study?
Some of the units you may study are:
  • Maintain a healthy, safe and productive work environment
  • Complying with statutory and organisational safety regulations
  • Create effective working relationships
  • Developing and maintaining working relations
  • Use laboratory Information Systems
  • Work in aseptic or clean room conditions
  • Carry out simple sampling operations
  • Carry out simple testing operations
  • Prepare laboratory materials, equipment and resources
  • Essential Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology

You may also choose from a bank of optional units which are most relevant to your employment.

Applicants who have achieved GCSE English, Mathematics or IT at grades A-C, will be exempt from the equivalent essential skill.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be an on going process. You may be assessed through observation in the workplace, practical demonstration, oral questioning, assignment/ project work, written tests and simulation.
