APPRENTICESHIP PHARMACY SERVICES

Who is this course for?

These qualifications are aimed for people working as Pharmacy Technicians or in other related supporting roles in pharmacy services.

The Level 2 qualification is designed for dispensary assistants working in hospital and community pharmacies. Learners will be involved in routine assembly of prescriptions as well as offering advice to customers on over the counter medication.

The Level 3 qualification is designed for Pharmacy Technicians working in hospital and community pharmacies. Learners will be involved in dispensing medicines, controlling stock of pharmaceutical materials and equipment.

How long is this course for?

1-4 years depending on how many levels you want to progress through.

What will I study?
At Level 2 learners need to take six units to successfully complete it, three of which are mandatory:
  • Assisting with the provision of pharmacy customer service
  • Ensuring your own provision of pharmacy customer service
  • Supporting the work of your team.

They can then choose three further units that provide the opportunity to work in different situations including:
  • Selling over the counter medicines
  • Providing information to customers on symptoms and products
  • Preparing pharmacy products
  • Supporting the use of specialist IT in the pharmacy.

At Level 3 learners need to take eight units to successfully complete it, four of which are mandatory:
  • Dispensing medicines and products
  • Controlling stock of pharmaceutical materials and equipment
  • Providing pharmaceutical information and advice

Ensuring that your own actions reduce the risks to health and safety.They can then choose four further units that provide the opportunity to work in different situations, and develop their skills and knowledge, including:
  • Helping with the supply of prescribed items
  • Assisting with the assembly of prescribed items
  • Preparing to make pharmaceutical products
  • Ordering, receiving and storing stock

How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be an on going process. You may be assessed through observation in the workplace, practical demonstration, oral questioning, assignment/ project work, written tests and simulation
