Course programme
“The AQA Bacc is an opportunity for students to significantly improve their further learning, education and employment prospects.”
The AQA Bacc is an academic qualification which builds on a student’s core ‘A’ level subjects, adding value through wider learning and enrichment activities. The achievement of an AQA Bacc is a demonstration that a student has gained a fuller, more rounded education with greatly enhanced personal qualities and skills.
Employers and Higher Education centres are increasingly looking for students who can demonstrate that they are resourceful, imaginative and, using their own initiative, can work both independently and with others.
Structure
Students must study at least 3 ‘A’ levels, study a further ‘breadth’ subject to at least AS, this could be General Studies, Critical Thinking or Citizenship, complete the Extended Project Qualification and participate in at least 2 enrichment activities totalling 100 hours.
The enrichment activity must be from two of the following 3 core areas: work-related learning, community participation or personal development activities and include such activities:
WORK RELATED LEARNING: work experience, work shadowing, paid employment, young enterprise, Engineering Education Scheme.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION: voluntary service, community support in local schools, hospitals, sports centres or charity shops, help on literacy schemes or in health education, Millennium Volunteer Award scheme, or mentoring or coaching activities etc.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES: sport, music, drama, film, theatre, dance, debating, health & safety, IT, field trips, driving safety/road awareness etc.
There is a requirement to do at least 100 hours of enrichment activities, at least two of the three core areas must be studies. A minimum of 30 hours is required for any chosen core area.
Status and Progression
Students receive UCAS points independently for each of the qualifications achieved. The AQA Bacc is graded Pass (E), Merit (C) and Distinction (A) according to the grades from the 3 ‘A’ levels and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Students awarded the AQA Bacc will receive further UCAS tariff points.
