Course programme

Here’s the ideal practical and academic preparation for a career in the archaeological, museum or archive worlds.

We run this course in historic Peterborough and examine British history - as represented in the archaeological record and landscape from prehistoric to modern times.

You’ll develop a detailed theoretical, academic and practical knowledge of archaeology and landscape history, which you can apply to a range of careers in archaeology, museums or archives.

The course is exceptionally wide-ranging. You’ll study the development of human activity from prehistory to the 21st century, examine natural and industrial settings (and everything in between) and explore broader European, as well as local and national history.

Alongside this you’ll develop the practical skills needed by today's archaeologists and landscape historians. Modules include forensic analysis, heritage management, desk and field research techniques, and a major third year project for you to research, manage and deliver.

The course tutors are active researchers and you’ll be participating in live projects, including the conservation of Bronze Age log boats at Flag Fen and work relating to Peterborough Cathedral’s 900th anniversary.

As part of your studies you’ll work on-site, on placement with one of our partners and complete a major project. You'll also be able to personalise aspects of your studies in line with your interests and career plans.
