The course is made up of three units as follows: During unit 1 students will study a wide range of 2D and 3D processes and techniques including drawing, painting 3D and printmaking. Students are encouraged to create imaginative design solutions. Throughout unit 2 students will develop their research and presentation skills by exploring artists work and producing their own responses. They will learn to connect their contextual studies with their ongoing practical work. The third unit investigates working to visual arts briefs. Students will need to be able to research, explore and develop visual ideas from given briefs using appropriate materials, equipment and techniques.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
How will I be assessed?
The qualification grade will be calculated through the accumulation of assessment criteria achieved throughout the three individual units. Successful students will be awarded at the end of the course with either a Pass (equivalent CC), a Merit (equivalent BB) or a Distinction (equivalent AA).
What can I do afterwards?
This course serves as a good foundation for students wishing to continue onto Level 3 Advanced Art and Design courses. A requirement of a Merit (BB) is needed for this progression.
Are there any additional costs involved?
It is expected that students will visit galleries and/or museums during the one year course. Students should also be prepared to buy their own personal art equipment. Total possible costs £50-£80.
