Content
The BTEC First Diploma in Design consists of four core (compulsory) units plus two specialist units and has been designed to provide preparation for employment or progression onto a level 3 National Diploma programme of study in a specialist area of your choice. The core units cover: 2D and 3D communication; Vocational Context (Art and Design history) ; Exploration and Development of Ideas (Exam) and Production of an Outcome (Exam). Specialist units cover: Graphic Design and working to a Visual Arts Brief.

Key Skills will also form part of your final qualifications.

You may retake English and Maths GCSE.

Assessment
All assessment is based on achievement of specified outcomes. All units, both core and specialist, involve either internal or external assessment and will be awarded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Internal assessment will be carried out by your tutors, to ensure that effective learning of the unit content, has taken place.

Progression
On completion of this course, you may go on to study a BTEC National Diploma in disciplines such as Art and Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Performance Studies, Textiles or Media Production.
