About this course

Students are expected to have at least 4 GCSE's at at least Grade D.
A portfolio or folder of artwork is desirable but not essential.
Entry criteria for mature students can be discussed at interview. No formal qualifications are needed but you will need a strong commitment and interest in the industry.

Art & Design BTEC National Certificate Level 3

About the course:
This course offers the opportunity to specialise in the wide area of Fine Art. Working within the Visual Arts industry is challenging and rewarding and changing all the time. Students can progress onto the Foundation Diploma Pre Degree course or gain employment following the course. Areas of possible future work range from Fine Art Practice to curating exhibitions.

City College, with its new and extensive studios is the ideal college to study. All staff are highly qualified in their specialisms and many are are practitioners in their own fields.

Course Content:
All students study 12 units over the 2yr full time course. Year 1 offers grounding in the fundamental areas of Fine Art Practice. The 6 specialist units in Year 2 range from traditional to non-traditional aspects of art and design practice.

Learning Style:
Classes take place in specifically designed studios and involve a range of activities including group and individual work.

Assignments exciting and designed to prepare the student for life after college be that in education or in Industry.

Equipment Requirements:
Students may purchase a range of basic Art Equipment from the college at cost price. A detailed list of required materials with will be issued on enrolment.

Assessment:
This program is assessed through coursework submission of all units required. This will in a few instances require written work but the course is substantially practical based work.

Progression:
Some students will be able to progress straight onto B.A. (Hons.) Degree programs. Students have traditionally had success in applying for local Universities (Southampton Solent University, Winchester School of Art, Portsmouth University, & The Arts Institute, Bournemouth). Students also apply to other Universities across the country.

Some students will progress onto the Foundation Diploma pre degree course to enable an improved portfolio for progression onto B.A. (Hons.) Degree programs. This program is offered at this college.

Local job opportunities can be taken on successful completion of this course. This can involve local retail, and entry level employment in the industry.
