About this course

At least 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (t­o include an art based subject at grade B) or successful completion of the Level 2 Creative and Media Diploma with an overall merit grade. You will also be asked to provide a portfolio of art and design work for your interview.

Content
You will be involved in developing work in the following areas:
· Drawing and designing
· Historical and contextual studies
· 3D and sculpture work, model making
· Paint and colour studies
· Portfolio organisation and development
· Surface and textile design
· Photography
· Computer, digital and IT work
· Mounting and presenting work.

After the initial introductory and assessment phase your work will be organised into a series of challenging art and design briefs. Assessment is continuous throughout the course and units are grouped together into project work.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful students choose to use their qualification as a progression route to degree courses at university or New College Stamford in subjects such as fashion, illustration, graphic design, photography or fine art. Alternatively, those seeking employment can find a wide range of careers in art and design industries.

Extra information
You will be asked to contribute towards the cost of your materials and trips at the beginning of the year (costs will be discussed at interview).

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
