Art & Design EDEXCEL Introductory Diploma Level 1

About the course:
The BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art, Design & Media has been created to encourage students to develop confidence in a wide variety of art, design and media skills. The aim is to help students develop an understanding of the wide range skills required to be successful in art, design and media. The BTEC Introductory Diploma comprises on 6 mandatory units that are designed to provide students with an introduction to the art and design sector and cover all the fundamental principals on which good art, media and design is based. The course is taught through workshops, visits and practical activities. Students are encouraged to experiment with materials and new processes in a lively and creative way

Course Content:
6 media units that will give students an underpinning knowledge of media and art based skills.

Learning Style:
Students will be taught in media or art studios, using appropriate equipment. Work will include group work and individual tasks.

Equipment Requirements:
Students must buy their own DVD's and paints. Students may purchase a range of basic art equipment from the college shop at cost price. A detailed list with prices will be issued at enrolment.

Assessment:
Assessment is assignment based. There are no exams.

Progression:
Students who complete the course will be able to move to any of the Level 2 Media Production or Art and Design courses offered by the college.

Additional Information:
Attendance - 1 year course, part time, approx. 2 days a week. If you are under 19 at the start of the course, and studying a full time course, there are no tuition / exam fees. If you are over 19, you are liable for tuition / exam fees - please contact Student Services. Students are given tutorial support throughout the course and specialist support is available for those students who require it.

Enrolment takes place after a traditional interview process.
