ART & DESIGN (Fine Art)

Why should I come to Pendleton College?
The Art department boasts good resources, which include large spacious rooms to work in which have lively displays of work. Students are positively encouraged to use the art studios in their non-contact time to continue self-development.

What will I study?
The course offers the opportunity to research themes, experiment with materials, media, techniques and processes within a fine art context in both 2 and 3 dimensions. Students will generate a portfolio of work that develops drawing and painting skills and creative approaches to experimental 3D work. Students will also expand their use of visual language both within written work and art. You will study the following modules:
  • Thematic enquiry
  • Expressive study
  • Externally set assignment
  • Contextual study
  • Creative problem solving
  • Independent study

What will I achieve?
This course can lead to many opportunities and careers in art and design. Students can progress to either a pre-degree foundation course or a degree course. To view some of the work and achievements of our students, please click on the graphic design link on the Course Spotlight page.

How is the course assessed?
On the AS level, two units are studied and assessed in an end of year exhibition. A further two units make up the A2 year and work is once again assessed in an end of year exhibition.

What else will I do?
A variety of trips are arranged which students are encouraged to go on. For example, there have been art trips to London, Liverpool and Manchester. We have been on visits to The Lowry, Castlefield Art Gallery, Manchester Museum, Whitworth Art Gallery and the Tate Gallery in London.
