Course overview
The course offers you the opportunity to study it as a Single AS or a Double AS Award. This may be continued to a full A Level or Double A Level Award in your second year.
In the first year all students cover a generic introduction to Art and Design; increasing your understanding of working within 2D and 3D visual language using a range of materials, techniques and technology to develop ideas.
If opting for a single AS Award three units of work will be required for submission, six units for a Double AS Award. In year two the pattern is repeated when you have the opportunity to become more specialised within different areas of the subject.
How you will learn
This will happen through various means of tuition. Teaching will be at group level and one-to-one level with staff providing support, focus and direction with your work. The course will provide you with the opportunity of studying and working with a range of disciplines such as; painting, printing, drawing, sculpture, design, textiles, ceramics and mixed media.
How you will be assessed
All of the evidence needed to pass this subject is produced through coursework and portfolio construction. However, the course does have some practical tasks set under timed conditions.
The majority of your study is practical work. However, there are some theoretical aspects to the course which include; evaluation of your projects, annotation of your sketchbooks and writing about the work of other artists.
