At the beginning of the course learners will need to buy some basic equipment and sketchbooks costing approximately 25. There will also be a studio fee of 10 per term which covers general costs of studio equipment and Art materials which learners have access to for the whole year.
The Programme
Designed to ensure students develop their creative talents alongside practical vocational skills. Through a variety of set assignments, students explore and experiment with a range of materials, techniques and processes, developing individual ideas whilst working to the requirements of a specific client or scenario. The National Award and Certificates can be taken as part of an A Level programme.
The Programme Content
During the first year of the course learners have the opportunity to work in a range of different Art and Design disciplines including, General Art and Design, Fine Art, Sculpture, Print Making, Textiles and Fashion. The variety of Art and Design skills learnt through a series of workshops in the first year allows learners to make an educated decision which enables them to choose what areas of Art and Design they may like to specialise in during their second year. Throughout the second year learners are given briefs which are more open to personal interpretation with specialist Art and Design options, supported by in depth workshops this allows learners to fully explore Art and Design specialisms of their choice.
Progression / Careers
This course aims to prepare and provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to work within the Art and Design industry. It also gives students both the qualifications and portfolio of work necessary for entry into Higher Education, or go onto a one year National Diploma in Foundation Studies. It can lead to a range of interesting and exciting employment opportunities in a variety of creative Art and Design settings.
