National Diploma/Certificate
About the Course
During the Art and Design course, you will develop your skills in art, craft work and design. You will have the opportunity to work in a range of media in both 2D and 3D. As well as developing your own use of visual language and presentation techniques, you will explore others†art and design work in your Contextual Studies and through discussion with professional artists/designers. The projects are exciting but challenging.
You can expect to be introduced to new and exciting ways of working and you will have the opportunity to work on a large scale with some projects. Sculpture is always exciting and the range of materials can include clay, chicken wire, plaster, card and junk. You can develop skills in assemblage, carving, modelling and construction. During the latter part of the course, you will have the chance to specialise in areas of particular interest through a number of optional units. Twelve units will be studied, normally over two years to gain the full National Diploma qualification. However six units can be studied over one year to gain a National Certificate.
