Course programme

AS Art and Design: Photography
An exciting development within the existing range of Art and Design courses at the college is the inclusion of an option to specialise in Photography from September 2009.
During the course you will explore and develop your interpretative response to the visual world, produced with the aid of traditional and digital photography tools.
You will explore the techniques of photography and image manipulation using a variety of media techniques. Is it for me?
The course will operate out of the darkroom in the Photography studio and also use the Apple Mac computer facilities in the department and the Fine Art studio. The course has three main media areas:
· Lens based imagery which can be broadly seen as traditional film photography and darkroom technique.
· Digital imagery involving i-Photo and Photoshop work and other digital photography applications.
· Photography Journal involving a study of aspects of photographers work past and present. This can include film, animation and interactive digital media. It is strongly recommended that students wishing to study this course invest in a good quality Digital SLR as, although both film and digital cameras will be available for use, the experience one gains from getting to really know your own camera is invaluable.
Candidates are required to work in one of more of the area (s) of Photography, such as those listed below. They may explore overlapping areas and combinations of areas:
· Portraiture, documentary and/or photo journalism
· Landscape photography (working from the urban, rural and/or coastal environment
· Working from objects, still life or from the natural world
· Experimental imagery
