Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you have existing skills in Art, Design, Photography or Media. You may wish to experience a wide range of new skills and then concentrate on a specialist area or you may wish to develop a singular specialist area.

What are the entry requirements?
You will need to bring to interview a selection of either Drawing, Craft, Photography, Painting, Interior Design, 3D, Video, Web / Graphic Design or Fashion Designs. The course is a year long Pre-Degree course and so you need to show the work that you have produced before the course. If your portfolio of previous or current work is limited or mislaid then we will ask you to do some drawing before interview. This is not a beginners course and there are parts of the course that require you to write about Art and Design. At interview, as well as looking at your portfolio, we will ask you complete a writing exercise. You will be assessed on your English skills at interview.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose. Writing: You can present relevant information in a format that suits your purpose; structure your writing to help readers follow and understand your main points; spell, punctuate and use grammar accurately; construct complex sentences and make your meaning clear.

What qualification will I receive?
You can receive an LOCN - Access to Creative Arts in Art and Design, a well established National Qualification recognised by Universities and Art Schools nationwide.

Where can it lead?
You can progress to Higher Education (BA hons) or HND in areas of Fine Art Painting, 3D, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Craft Design, Animation, Photography, TBM (Experimental Video / Audio), Textiles, 3D Design, Product Design, Multi-media, Mixed Media, Illustration.

What will I study?
You will study and experience practical skills in a 3D studio, Painting Studio, Media Suite, Apple Graphic Suite, Photography Lab and in an IT suite. You will be producing your own work to set Assignment Briefs and you will be introduced to Historical and Contemporary Art and Design.

How will I be taught?
You will be taught by Technical Demonstration, in studio settings, in lectures, in seminars, in visits and through discussion and debate. You will be taught by your own discovery and experience, problem solving and your own decisions.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through Assignments that will be graded to either Level 2 or to Level 3 (Pre Degree). YOU need to aim for Level 3 Credits. You will need a minimum of 48 Level 3s to Pass the course and be accepted Higher Education. The 'Pass Rate' for this course is very high and all of our students receive offers from Higher Education.

What support is available while I am on the course?
All students will allocated a Course Tutor to help with course related and personal issues. in technical studio skills you will be supported by lecturers and technical staff. If You require Language or Learning Support then this too can be arranged. With this in mind, if English is your second language then do also apply for an English Language course as well as this Art Design course.
