Content
The Introductory Diploma in Art, Design and Media is designed to develop the skills necessary to improve your chances of progressing onto a higher level course (such as a level 2 course including First Diploma in Art, Design and Media) or employment. The course will guide you through the basic techniques involved in Art and Design looking at painting and drawing techniques, printmaking and sculpture. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the layout of images and typography in posters and magazines as well as the uses of technology such as computers and cameras in Graphics.

The course is divided into the following units:
  • Explore Visual Language in Art, Design and Media
  • Explore Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art, Design and Media
  • Introduction to 3D Design Products
  • Introduction to Animation
  • Explore and Develop Art, Design and Media ideas
  • Carry out a personal project in Art, Design and Media
Key Skills will form part of your final qualifications.

Assessment
All assessment is based on achievement of specified outcomes. All units, both core and specialist, involve internal or external assessment and will be awarded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Internal assessment will be continuous throughout the programme; to ensure that effective learning of the unit content has taken place. The two core units of Explore and develop Art, Design and Media Ideas, Carry out a Personal Project in Art, Design or Media are assessed externally by the awarding body.

Progression
Subject to you gaining a merit grade or above this level one course will lead on to the BTEC 1st Diploma in Art and Design or the BTEC 1st Diploma in Media.
