BTEC First Diploma Art & Design

WHY TAKE A FIRST DIPLOMA IN ART AND DESIGN?
This course is suitable for students who have an interest in Art and Design, who may have studied it at school and have a lively and inquiring mind. It is a very practical course so would be suitable for those who enjoy this aspect of learning.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
You will study four core units and two optional units. These consist of 2-D and 3-D communication, work related projects and you will be able to explore and develop your ideas and produce final outcomes in a project that takes place at the end of the year. You will experience projects in graphics, textiles, fine art and 3-D design.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You need to be willing to explore new ideas and to communicate effectively. You will be able to develop practical skills as you explore a range of art, craft and design activities. You will develop an understanding of how artists, designers and craftspeople work, and be able to experience a range of materials, techniques and processes to produce your own work. You will gain an insight into possible progression opportunities and gain confidence putting together an exciting portfolio of work.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
All of the units are continuously assessed by your tutors. The final project is externally assessed when a verifier visits to see the exhibition of your work. As your work is continuously assessed you will build up a portfolio of work for each unit.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
As you follow the course you will be able to develop your key skills and hopefully develop enough confidence to progress to a higher level of study. To help develop your work, you will be able to take part in trips and visits to local cities such as Manchester and Liverpool.
