About this course

To access this course you wil need A BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject. A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 28 GCSE points and Art at Grade C or above. Related work experience. Other related Level 1 (Foundation) qualifications. All candidates will be interviewed to assess their eligibility for the course.

Introduction:
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. This course is equivalent to four GCSEs at grades A*-C and is a full Level 2 (Intermediate) qualification. If you enjoy drawing, colour, design and finding out about artists, this course is ideal and will also provide you with the experience and qualifications to apply to more advanced Art & Design courses. All classes will take place in specialist art facilities at our multi-million pound Park Campus, which is a Centre of Excellence for creative arts.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year Part-Time+ course will be held at Preston College, Park Campus, Moor Park Avenue, Preston, PR1 6AP.

Course Content:
This course encourages you to boost your qualifications to gain essential skills in art and design, and learn how to become more creative. You will exprience a wide range of media, materials and techniques in a variety of exciting thematic projects including drawing, painting, 3D design and 3D modelling, art and design history and practice, graphics, photography and Photoshop illustrations and digital.

Assessment:
Coursework will be internally assessed and externally moderated. You will also have final set projects which are are externally assessed. You will receive continious feedback and advice.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to Level 3 pre-degree National Certificate or Diploma courses at the Park Campus in:

  • Art & Design.
  • Fashion & Textile Design.
  • Graphic Design.
  • Interior & Spatial Design.
  • Digital Photography.
This course is a springboard to a successful future in art and design. Many past students have graduated to higher level courses and then made careers in local studios or progressed to degree courses. One previous student (Chris Lowe) recently won a BAFTA award for his set design for the television drama `Longitude`.

Additional Costs:
Art materials and equipment costs vary but you should expect to pay about £50 initially and then continuing costs towards art materials and photocopying costs approximatly £50.00 - student grants are available in cases of hardship.

How To Apply
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Part-Time+ Course Benefits
