About this Course Level 1 allows you to experience a broad range of disciplines, including: Drawing and painting Sculpture 3D design and craft skills Graphics and illustration Printmaking and surface relief The programme is delivered through practical studio based activity together with research into contemporary and historical design practice. Students will also work towards a Level 1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development which will enable them to develop their personal and social development skills whilst gaining confidence and self-esteem. The units cover areas such as: developing own skills and setting goals; working with others; knowledge for living in the wider community; community action; healthy living, and preparing for work. Functional skills or GCSEâs in English and Maths are part of the core programme of study. Students who have not achieved a A*-C grade in English and Maths will be required to study the appropriate level as part of their main qualification. More information

Additional information
To start on this course you need:
A reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy (at least GCSE grade E in English or Maths, which will be assessed at interview), plus an appropriate reference and successful interview.
If you have at least a grade D in GCSE English and an art or design subject, you may be able to start at Level 2 or 3 instead.
